Flash traveller vs nomad style travels

I am a bit of both. I've done most of my travelling being a flash traveller which meant I spend less than a week in a place before moving on to my next destination. However, still being a bit of a nomad where you try to stay in a place as much as possible soaking up the local life and culture, before you decided to try somewhere else.
Due to our busy lifestyle and schedules, most people are flash travellers. This is evident with the 10-day Europe tours being offered commercially where you could be spending only a few hours to a day in a place before been ushered back into buses/boats/trains for the next spot. While I don't agree with this type of travelling as you simply do not have enough time to experience and appreciate a travel destination, but knowing that as society becomes busier and we have less time to really enjoy ourselves, it is perhaps the only way for those people with only limited amount of holiday from work.
Also - it depends on the ultimate goal of travelling. Some people want to get through as many places as possible so they can say they've "been there done that" and others argue you haven't travelled until you've spent a night in hospital sick with a stomach bug or have to sleep on a local while battling the seat with other locals and local poultry population.
I personally would love to be able to work in a place for a year and then change, work another year and change again, slowly go through the countries on the list like so....
