Cash, Plastics or Traveller's Cheques?

When I travel, I carry a combination of cash, plastics and traveller's cheques. Personally, I like to pay everything with my credit cards because I can keep a record of my spending through my statements, as well as earn points on my purchases. However it's often not safe in countries that are linked with credit scams and I have in fact, been a victim of such scams that my credit card number was used by someone in Malaysia to spent $700 worth of items from a company in Italy.
Thankfully, my bank did some investigations and reversed the purchases.
I do like traveller's cheques. It's a great way to carry a very large sum of money. The down side is that they need to be cashed at banks that charge fees, and are not accepted everywhere.
Cash is great, it's accepted everywhere, but it's also stealable without security. Once it's gone, it's gone.
What is your preference? How do you prefer to spend your money while travelling?
