Skim travels

A friend of mine just booked a ticket to head off to Europe, to London to be exact to tarvel. He is the type that doesn't usually travel, have no real urge to travel and have no idea about travelling.
I am glad he has taking this trip because it'll certainly broaden his horizon about the world and hopefully be more interested in stories I have to tell about my travels too (he didn't really care about it you see)
However it's his attitude that worries me. He has assumptions and expectations about travelling mainly from stereotyping cultures as well as tv ads. While he is looking forward to visiting Amsterdam so he can spend the days completely stoned, he has no interest in exploring and learning about the actual Netherlands culture.
He only has 10 days, but expect to "see as much as I can". 3 days in London, 2 day in Amsterdam, 2 days in Spain and other days perhaps in Paris.
How can you expect to really experience a place in such a short time? He also just want to get pissed at the pubs.
I mean, is this right? Travelling just to visit yet another city, without the intention of really experiencing the culture, to try to cram as many places in as you can just so you can say you have been there.... to me, that just goes against the idea of the point of travelling - why not just stay at home and get pissed and stoned?
I am proud that he is actually going to at least travel, so perhaps it's a first step for him.
But what do you think of just travelling so you can say you've been there?
