It was all too good in the beginning. 1 pound flights from London to Stockholm, ten Euro flights from Frankfurt to Rome. Ryan Air and many of the low cost European airlines made holiday dreams come true for many Europeans.
However in the current gloabl economic crisis, many of these 'perks' are disappearing. As we can see in Australia also, starting with both Jetstar and Virgin Blue charging extra for passengers with check in luggage, to carriers like Air Asia and Ryan Air charging for customers to be able to pre-choose their seats, the costs are adding up.
Ryanair plans 'vertical seating'
So what's next? While Ryanair is planning 'vertical' seating, will the low cost airline competition simply become a competition between who can actually charge customers more extras?
