Who's better at travelling? Men or women?

I am just reading the latest issue of my favourite travel magazine Wanderlust and one of its regular columnist touched on this rather gender sensitive topic.
Who is the better traveller?
The argument goes from who is better at reading maps, at leading directions (and at asking directions) to which gender in general travels greener and better adapted to local customs.
Well, let's lay it out on the table shall we?
While men are generally a lot more adventurous than women and *perhaps* a little better at reading maps, the adventurous nature of men can actually work against them in being better travellers. The most adventurous the less they are likely to notice local customs and safety warnings, and often offending the locals in the process of being adventurous.
While women are generally safer and better at noticing the details of local culture and manners, they will get lost. I mean, I personally don't get lost as much as my partner does (and yes, I can read maps very well thank you very much), but apparently statistics say that women do get lost more than men so let's just keep it at that. Perhaps they are not as adventurous and may miss out on 'fun' but it really depends on how you define travel doesn't it? Does one travel to have 'fun' or to learn?
From a social point of view, men does travel a lot more and willing to go a lot further than women (and in some cases, can go to a lot more places anyway due to different gender limits and issues in certain countries regarding solo women travellers) which I suppose make them a better traveller?
From the insurance company's point of view, it seems that women automatically become better travellers because women get lower premiums for being the more careful and safe gender of the two.
And then - looking it from the environmental point of view, www.responsibletravel.com has reported that women (more than 66%) are more likely to book green travels than men.
So. Where shall we start? Perhaps the answer is the old fashioned "why we belong together" question. Women and men are made differently and meant to compliment each other on their merits and faults. With adventurous qualities matched with the careful and green qualities of men and women, we'd be super travellers together.

Our survey has revealed that women are searching for cultural interaction, wildlife encounters with short treks as well as being pampered. These are the most sought after travel experiences.
There seem to be many women in society now who are either single or who have partners with different interests. As women, we have focused on our families for the past 20 years, have worked hard and are now ready to meet our own personal challenges and experience as much as we can. We are fit and healthy and want to explore more.
Many of our friends may not be in a position to travel with us, or have different interests as well, yet we don’t want to travel on our own. We are searching for something different, but in good company.
The important aspect is to provide women with a product that will enable them to overcome a range of social, time and societal barriers which may otherwise restrict them from participating in Adventure travel.
