Please stay: pleads Australian tourism

So, the Aussie dollar is now almost equal to the green bills. This morning it hit a high of AUD1= USD0.99. No doubt a lot of us are now looking to holiday overseas, especially to the US, taking advantage of our good economy.
But wait, the tourism industry in Australia is crying for customers. "Stay with us!" they say, as overseas visitor counts drop, "You should see your own backyard first!"
It's a hard choice really. We all do want to assist our own economy, and we really should see the beautiful places available in the country we call home... yet the temptation, the cheap deals and shopping are luring us all out of the country.
I mean, when flights to Indonesia/Thailand/Malaysia/U SA cost almost the same price (sometimes cheaper) as say flights from Sydney to Perth/Darwin/Alice Springs, and then once you get there, the living cost of a home holiday in comparison to an overseas holiday where you can grab a meal for less than AUD5, and stay in a 5 star hotel for the price of a 3 star at home... what would YOU choose?
I know what I would choose. An extra stamp in my passport.
I am all for checking out your own backyard as a holiday destination, as I have done so many times despite the higher cost. But if the costs are not adding up, majority of the tourists are not going to buy it.
"We'll leave it until we retired" or "it's on the cards, but it's just not our priority at the moment".
Don't take advantage of $A, stay here: government - smh.com.au
