Work travel losing its quirk

With the increase in travel cost and all these fuss about fuel surcharges and cost cutting, what used to be pretty cool working in a position with frequent travel is now becoming quite uncomfortable.

Corporates, especially used to make it all comfortable and nice for those who have to go on business trips. Some of the used to be able to fly businss class, they were offered free lounge memberships, they were given generous daily allowances and most of all, had the flexibility to changing their tickets to suit their times if they finished early or want to stay another extra day.

Now, a lot of the companies are cutting back all of these because its simply getting too expensive to travel. Employees and even senior management now have to go along with the cattle class, are on inflexible cheap tickets and have no lounge access. They are told to use the cheapest option as transport and some have to pay their own meals during their work stay.

Less people now consider work travel a quirk.

Do you travel for work? Has it changed for you over the years?
