Hello.. I'm Amy, and I am a travel-holic

It's a new year and a new beginning but I thought I'd revisit this old topic again. In relation to my first ever Travel String post about Why We Travel, I had related the urge to travel and the experience of travel to falling in love, in reference to what Pico Iyer's article.
And then interestingly enough, the first issue of Wanderlust I receive this year has an article on the science of being a travel-holic. On Why Do We Travel. In parts it was actually relating the urge to travel to the urge to have sex. Hmmm... I guess the brain works in its own mysterious ways.
Well there are a few things the article mentions that might have something to do with the addiction - it can be in our genes, just like there are people with genes that makes them want to do extreme sports (D4DR, the gene that influences the amount of dopamine in our brains) - and then there is the way our mind works, and stimulation of each of our brains by different things, just like - yep, you've guessed it - things that makes you aroused, but in relation to travel of course.
Interesting....
So besides the motivations of what makes us wants to travel, it looks like there is science behind it too. And if you feel depressed and moody when not travelling (check) and that you fantasise about travel when not on a journey (check) and while travelling you are already planning your next travels (check) then you are a travel-holic.
Fortunately this really isn't as bad as being an alcoholic or other -holics that may endanger your life. Travelling enrich your inner being and broadens your view of the world, so it's actually healthy for you. It's just slightly more expensive and takes more time.
And then I've learned a new term - if you are anti-travel, and have irrational anxiety about travel, then you have HODOPHOBIA. There is a cure for that. Go travelling with someone you trust. Just do it once, and you'll want to go back for more.
And to end this I thought I'd share some of the interesting links I found in relation to this topic:
