Those of you who have subscribed to Air Asia marketing would have known that on Monday night they started their 1million free seats campaign and immediately the seats will selling fast. All you had to do was find a date with a flight that flew for free, and all you pay is the taxes.
Sorry, this is not going to be much of a debate for the blog than just a little expression of excitment. I have successfully found and booked some free seats for myself and Will to go to Malaysia for less than AU$500 per person. WOW.
And THAT includes a checked in luggage between us as well as meals on the long haul flights. We will be flying out of Gold Coast into Kuala Lumpur, stay there for a couple of days then flying Air Asia again to Borneo into Kota Kinabalu, stay there for a week, then fly back to KL and connecting with another flight to Kuala Teregganau for a week then back to KL connecting with a flight back into AUS but into Melbourne.
All that added up to $0 in flight cost and $480 for all taxes required. Then, we have some vouchers to stay in a resort for the week we are in Kota Kinabalu and we'll be heading into hostels in KL and Terengganau so all up it'll cost us around $1000 TOTAL for the holiday, including spending money.
And that's 14 days of holidays.
The downside is - we have to wait 11 months! The sale was for travel 1 April to 31 July next year and we got seats in July. At least we know we'll definitely be taking a holiday next year
Just a bit on Air Asia for those who haven't flown with them. They are a Malaysian based budget international airline and I flew with them a couple of times when I was in Malaysia last time and they are (I reckon) better than Jetstar. Of course they have the most basic seating and there is no such thing as business class and wide seats, and they make you pay for luggage and food onboard, but the staff are nice, the aircrafts are clean and not old and they have been really reliable.
They fly out of Gold Coast, Melbourne and Perth into Kuala Lumpur so if you don't mind not having the major airline comfort, they are a good choice when travelling budget.
Anyways, thought I'd share that!
